This year the ICAO observance of the International Women’s Day under the theme of “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, will be marked by two Panel Discussions on Tuesday, 8 March 2022. These conversations will provide an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of women around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for the aviation industry. The theme of the IWD 2022 provides an opportunity to recall how increasing and reflecting the share of female transport workers and users therefore can lead to unleashing the knowledge and capability of women in crafting effective climate change solutions for the benefit of the sector. In the context of aviation, the celebration of the International Women's Day under this theme is an opportune moment to focus on the opportunities and challenges of advancing sustainability imperatives in this male-dominated sector, and recognize women’s contributions towards the technological and innovative upgrades and accelerations in aviation. It also allows for a renewed commitment towards gender equality in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 and ICAO Resolution A39-30, as we look forward to building a more resilient and sustainable future for our industry as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

ICAO is a Specialized Agency of the United Nations.
